I posted this as a comment in nyceve's diary, but it occurred to me that it could be a durn good little diary on it's own, so...
I've written both Senators and my Rep three times in the past two weeks. And I've written Obama twice in the past three days. And I told the President specifically that frankly, the Public Option is my only chance to get off of Medicaid. Because I'm uninsurable. At this point, even if my fiance got a good job with decent coverage, we still couldn't get married and put me on it- no insurance co out there would enroll me.
This goes farther than just medical though, and I also told the President this: being forced to remain on Medicaid means that I am forced to remain in poverty. If I make any money or take a job, I'll lose my coverage. So I can't get married- I'll lose my coverage. I can't get a job- I'll lose my coverage. If I finish and sell The Book- I lose my coverage.
I have to wonder how many others might be out there, who cannot make real changes to better their lives because they'd lose their Medicare, and they aren't otherwise insurable.
I don't like being poor any more than I like being sick- and I'm plenty of tired of that! Who else is with me? How many Americans are in my shoes?
